Anyone can handle ceramic tile flooring installation, rocket science it is not! You just need to read up on it and gather the right materials and tools before getting started. You can even print off and keep these guidelines with you for reference.
Step 1- is all about familiarizing yourself with the tools you will need to undertake this project. To your thinking tools are tools so why is this important? Unless you are fully aware of the different tools need to fix ceramic tile flooring installation, you have a problem even before you begin. You can buy all that you need at the local hardware store; chat up the owner or sales clerk and collect valuable information. For tools too expensive to purchase you can rent from a local tool rental yard. Some of the tools you will need include:
• Safety clothing and gear: heavy duty gloves, glasses and work clothes or overalls
• Carpentry tools – bubble level, carpenter’s square and measure tape
• Tile cutter, tile spaces, trowel, putty knife, rubber grout float
• Tile bonding material or tile adhesive, sealant and tile grout
Step 2 – once you have assembled your tools are clear about each one, move to step two; preparation of the sub-floor for the ceramic tile flooring installation. This is where your tiling job actually begins. Check the floor for cracks and clean it of all debris. Repair cracks and clean the floor as best you can. If the cracks are too big to repair replace that particular section of the floor. Wood floors should be well supported and at least 2 inches thick to withstand the weight of the tiles.
Remember if you have an existing tile floor you will have to tear it out and then begin your ceramic tile flooring installation. Make use of a flat bladed chisel and hammer at the tiles with a mallet; once you have cracked and dislodged the tiles, clear the debris.
Step 3 – involves measuring and layout the floor for your ceramic tile flooring installation. Start out by measuring the length and breadth of the floor to get an estimate of the number of tiles required. Measure across the floor and mark the center point; measure across the width of the floor and mark the center. The intersecting point is the center of your floor where you need to begin your tiling.
Step 4 - the actual ceramic tile flooring installation begins. Place the first tile at the center point and using a thin set mortar or tile adhesive, bond it to the sub-floor. Press down on the tile to secure it in place.
Step 5 - complete the tiling job by putting in grout after the tiles have set. Make sure you buy your grouting in the same shade as the tiles for a better looking kitchen floor.
Remember to allow 24 hours drying periods after each process. Good luck with your ceramic tile flooring installation process.
